The Burial Cloth of Jesus
Proof of a Physical Crucifixion and Resurrection

Jesus is the I Am of God (John 8:58). He though man is God as the Son of God (John 1:14-18). Because Jesus is God he is without sin.
Because Jesus is without sin he was able to be the sacrificial lamb for humanity (1 Peter 1:19). He was able to give his life for
others.

In Jesus' death he gave his life so that those who choose him can have eternal life. His resurrection attests
to our own when he returns
(1 Cor. 15:20-22).
But how did Jesus die? Scripture says he died on a tree (Acts 5:30), an understanding of where we get the word
cross as the cross was a pole that was taken from a tree.
Was Jesus' death a real event? Or did Jesus fake his death? Was his resurrection a real event? Scripture teaches his death was a real event (John 19:30-38). It also teaches his resurrection was a real event (Matt.
28:5-6). Early Christians claim to have witnessed both (John 21:24, 1 Cor. 15:1-8).
Early church fathers taught both the death and the resurrection of Christ were real events (Kirby, “Church Fathers”). And despite certain Jewish leaders not willing to claim him
as Messiah, they attest
that Jesus' death was a physical event although they try to give a false claim to how his body disappeared
due
to their jealousy (Kirby, “Josephus”), which is also attested in Scripture (Matt. 28:11-15, Acts 17:5-7).
While there is Scriptural and historical evidence to Jesus' death and resurrection, we should ask if there is any other evidence to both. The answer to that
is yes.
If we look further we can find archaeological proof of his death and resurrection. That proof can be found in a burial cloth.
In Scripture we find that the apostle John mentions a burial cloth (John 19:40-42. The burial cloth is a piece of cloth in which
Jesus was buried after his death. If that piece of cloth can be located then it not only proves Jesus's death
as a real physical event.
It could also prove his resurrection to be real and a physical event.
Located in Italy at the Cathedral of St. John the baptist in Turin is a burial cloth known as the Shroud of Turin. ("The Real Face of Jesus") The Shroud of Turin is believed to be according to
examination of its content the
burial cloth of Jesus. A group of scientists known as STURP decided to examine the clothe to discover
its
validity. Their examination of the cloth showed several things. The Shroud attests to being Jesus' burial cloth
due to the imprinted
figure of a crucified man on the cloth. It also attests to being Jesus' original burial cloth
because there is pollen on the cloth
and writing which dates back to 1st century Jerusalem where Jesus was
crucified. There are also human blood samples located on the
cloth that attest as witness to the event. How
the imprint of the human figure was made on the cloth proves Jesus' resurrection.

Due to how it was used the Shroud proves that Jesus death was a real event. Further due to the imprint on the cloth it proves Jesus'
resurrection was a real event.
Certain scientists later that had no relation to the original STURP team decided to take a sample of the cloth to have it tested for its age, also known as carbon dating. The carbon dating did not prove the shroud to be 1st century but rather more or less a claim to be of medieval dating. However, it was later proven that the piece of evidence the scientists used to come to that conclusion was removed from an area where there was a later mending patch located in the cloth because of a medieval fire which had caused some damage to the cloth (Rogers). Scripture also mentions a face cloth which was used on Jesus' face after his death (John 20:5-7). In Oviedo, Spain there is a piece of cloth known as Sudarium of Oviedo. It is believed to be the original face cloth used on Jesus after his burial. An examination of the face cloth shows it to be an exact match to the Shroud of Turin. For
